Springtime in Romania

Everywhere you go, the earth is being turned over.  Every available piece of ground is being prepared for planting. Large gardens as well as tiny plots squeezed between a house and the sidewalk are being readied. Grape vines are being spruced up, last year's dead vines cut back.
Bottles are hung over gardens where seeds have been buried in the earth, so that the birds stay away. The temperatures were warm last week, but the past few days have felt like winter. Not the best weather for planting, but the work goes on. When harvest time comes around much will be preserved and frozen so food is available through the winter.

Male and female sheep are kept in separate pens, brought together at just the right time, so the birth of their offspring is timed perfectly . The goal is that the lambs grow to 20 lbs. in time for Easter when they will be sold in the market for the best price. You see many baby lambs out in the pastures these days.

Chicks are hatching. Kept inside so they can make it through the colder days and nights.

Romanian words of the day:

Water= apa (ah-pa)
Flat= plata (pla-ta)

I'm not a fan of the infamous European mineral water, so apa plata (flat water) is what I ask for when I need some liquid refreshment.

By the way..had something new and different for dinner tonight... ROOSTER SOUP! Looks just like chicken soup but tastes like rooster.
