The past few days have felt like spring! The temperatures have climbed and the sun (soare) is out, everything is melting and the roads are VERY muddy... and...the ROOSTERS are making their presence known in the very early morning again. Can you even imagine roosters waking you up in the middle of the city? Welcome to Romania...
Here are the Romanian words of the day....
Crosswalk= zebra (zay-bra) in Romanian. If you don't stop for someone standing in a crosswalk or someone who is about to enter one, you lose your driver's license for a month, no questions asked. The word Zebra (pronounced the same way) is also used for the animal.
Broom= matura While the type of brooms we are accustomed to are available in RO for indoor use, these handmade brooms are for outdoor use. They are made by tying a bunch of sticks/branches together with wire. The street sweepers use them each morning as they clean the city to start the day. I found these two brooms in the Sunshine School yard.

Good on you Marti- thanks for sharing!
