Today, March 8th, is Mother's or Woman's Day in Romania. All over the city, flowers were being sold. The lady on the left in this picture wanted me to take her picture so she could "be on TV". Little did she know she'd only make it to the internet.
The teachers and students from our Sunshine School for special needs kids put on a mother's day program for parents, friends and all who are work for RCE. Each of the 47 students had a part in the program no matter their physical impairments or communication abilities.The children sang, read poems, signed, all with the guidance of the fabulous teachers of the Sunshine School. Many in the audience were moved to tears, as even the most profoundly impaired children demonstrated how much they have progressed.
Fifteen month old "Toni" came by for therapy again today- pacifier in tow. She is now wearing a sock on her right hand for most of the day to encourage her to use her weaker left hand. So far so good. She's using her left hand to help with eating, is practicing picking up objects, and using it lots when in therapy. We are looking forward to seeing her again tomorrow and working more on walking.
I brought 80+ fleece dolls to Romania with me this trip. They will be distributed to all the kids that RCE works with through our social and project caring teams. I have brought some of these same dolls over to Romania on previous trips and the kids have loved them! Many thanks to my friend Holly in Rhode Island. She is a long time friend from PT school who knows folks involved with the doll making through the "Women Reaching Women" ministry in RI. The dolls are made by female inmates living in a RI prison.
The past couple of days have been a bit on the cold side, but the sun has been out. The snow is melting, the smell of spring is in the air and it may finally be time to put away the sleds.
